Design Process

The process of design is a journey of discovery for both the client and the designer.  There are several distinct stages necessary in the process of creating a functional landscape design.

The Consultation

This is our initial meeting at your property, which usually lasts between one to two hours.  During this time, we will get to know each other as we discuss your needs and desires for the property.  We will walk the property together observing the characteristics of the site such as drainage patterns, sun and shade, neighboring views, etc and discussing the history (if known) of the land use.  It is during this first meeting that the size of the project will be determined.  back

The Landscape Plan Proposal

The proposal is our contract that spells out the scope of the project and itemizes what will be included in the design to be created e.g. pergola, patio, wall fountain, utility area, dog run, and vegetable garden for rear of property.  The proposal describes what is needed from you—a certified plat plan and a copy of your neighborhood covenants.  It describes what you will be receiving from Eco-Scapes and sets a time for the design work to go forward, a date for its completion, and the fee for the design. back

Measurements and Photos

Once the contract has been signed and the necessary plat, covenants and deposit have been received, the property can be carefully measured to place any trees, fences, or hardscape that may not have appeared on the original plat.  Photos are taken of the entire property to be designed including views from important residence windows.  In-depth examination of the property will take place during this visit. back

Development of the Base Plan

From the measurements taken, a base plan will be drawn to scale on paper and an initial conceptual design sketch/sketches developed based on the information gleaned from our consultation and from the site analysis.  Then we will meet once more to begin to set the design theme, define the exterior “rooms”, locate major trees/ key plants and screening, establish any hardscape, etc.

After the basic geometry of the landscape has been worked out, one to three further meetings will move the project from the basic skeleton through to the finer and final details. You will be guided through the plant selection process with full visual and informational support.  Your approval of the rough design leads to the rendering of the final drawing and delivery of blueprints to you. back

Installation

After the copies of the finished plan have been delivered complete with plant list, contractor notes, drawings of any important structural details, a quote for installing all or part of the plan can be provided.  You may choose to do all or part of the installation yourself, or Eco-Scapes can be contracted to install your dream landscape.  Eco-Scapes will oversee any major hardscape installation sub-contractors; this insures the work is properly synchronized, satisfies your vision, and meets our quality standards. back
